A History Helping Others

DARTNC (Disaster Area Relief Team North Carolina has a rich history providing relief and comfort for those in need. DARTNC has its beginnings helping those in need beginning in storms in the eastern part of the state of North Carolina. When Hurricane Florence hit North Carolina in 2018, the need reached well inland; not just on the coast. From New Hanover and Brunswick as far inland as Pender county, individuals were in need of assistance. DARTNC was formed to provide that support. Donations were collected. Volunteers were recruited. Help was given.

Once the needs caused by Hurricane Florence were met, the network was in place so when Hurricane Helene so seriously impacted the other end of the state of North Carolina in the mountains of Western North Carolina, DARTNC was ready. DARTNC actually had volunteers previously impacted by Hurricane Florence served by DARTNC now serving those impacted by Hurricane Helene in the western part of the state. This is the epitome of people helping people.

DARTNC drew upon its network of volunteers, supporters, donors, and supply chain to shift the focus from helping families in Eastern North Carolina to helping families in Western North Carolina. Primarily working with churches throughout North Carolina and the Southeast United States, DARTNC has organized relief work trips of volunteers initially to help with cleanup and feed first responders, the need has now morphed to rebuilding. Several homes have been rebuilt by DARTNC volunteers of all levels of DIY and construction experience.
